Plan Ahead
Certain forms of misbehavior occur in specific places or on specific occasions. If you are aware of this, you may help reduce or avoid these behavioral problems.

The following are the steps you can use to do so:

Anticipate the problem:
Try to be aware if certain places evoke bad behavior in your child.

Review the rule:
Let your child know the type of behavior you expect before you enter that situation.

Review the incentives for good behavior:
Offer your child a small reward for behaving properly in the situation.

Review the consequences of bad behavior:
Let your child know that you expect him to behave and that if he fails to do so he will have a specific punishment.

Mineral Supplements

Many ADHD children are deficient in certain minerals. These deficiencies can affect both behavior and school performance. The most common mineral deficiency is magnesium, but most children are deficient in more than one mineral. Other common deficiencies are in calcium, zinc, and iron, as well as in some of the more obscure trace minerals. For this reason, I recommend trying a multi-mineral supplement.

I want to stress that if your child has a mineral deficiency giving him supplements will probably not cure his ADHD. However, many of the behavioral problems ADHD children display may actually be a result of a nutritional deficiency. There is another interesting point to note. Generally, speaking in takes months of treatment with nutritional supplements before you will notice a change in your child. However, mineral supplements are different. If your child is deficient in certain minerals and you give him the right supplement you could see improvement in a less than a week. I have seen dramatic improvement in my own children in two days and this is also the experience of other practitioners. So if this is the right treatment for your child, you could be pleasantly surprised very soon.

When choosing a supplement, you want to focus on the magnesium content. Magnesium and calcium work in opposition. Still, calcium deficiency is also common so the best advice is to try a supplement that contains both in the proper proportions. Therefore, you should choose a supplement that provides at least 200mg of Magnesium and at least half the amount of magnesium as calcium.

The best formula I have found so far is the Mega-Mineral Formula by Vitamin Power. This all-inclusive tablet formula supplies 10 essential minerals in chelated form, allowing optimum absorption and utilization in the body.

Vitamin Power is a very reliable New York based company that has been around for almost thirty years. They use a third party company to test for purity and potency. Their supplements are in a natural base and have no sugar, artificial coloring or preservatives. This is important since many children have allergies to these additives.
