To meet the DSM-IV criteria for Oppositional Defiant Disorder your child has to display Oppositional Defiant Disorder behavior "more often" than other children of his age. Since this definition is still vague, I have added what is usually considered "often" in most age groups.

Keep in mind that children do go through stages as they grow and whereas twice a week may be often for a seven-year-old, it might be normal for a four-year-old.

Which Oppositional Defiant Disorder Behaviors Does Your Child Display?

Loses temper at least twice a week

Argues with adults at least twice a week

Actively defies or refuses to comply with adults' requests or rules at least twice a week
